September 2010

Well, now that the new carpet is down (actually seeing the carpet has been a challenge up to now!), I have to say that the ground floor of the shop looks better for the reduction in clutter. More light, more browsing space and, with judicious repositioning of some of the bookcases, nearly as many books. A quick survey of customer reaction suggests that most much prefer the lay-out now, although there are a few traditionalists who miss the dark corners and unstable ceiling-scrapers of books. They need have no fears - there are five room upstairs, and The Eagle Bookshop Entropy law suggests that the more ordered one room becomes, the less ordered become the others.

Books. I ought to mention that the Performing Arts books are selling well. The collection was so large (it belonged to Theatre historian David Cheshire) that we still have several hundred of the better titles to get out on the shelves. You'll have to come to the physical shop for this one - the website tends to operate a few months behind. You must understand that buying books is much more fun than cataloguing them!

Amongst the very recent acquisitions is a small but impressive group of early motor racing books. I'll give a few more details shortly.

August 2010

As part of our refurbishment, we are replacing the flooring in the main room of the shop on

Monday 23rd August

and we regret that the shop will be closed on that day.

In the meantime... we are busy sorting a collection of over 3000 books on THE PERFORMING ARTS, including Theatre, Ballet, Music, Circus, Pantomime and Music Hall.
More details soon.

July 2010

The Eagle Bookshop is about to enter its twentieth year (September 1st), and we are busy making preparations. The shop itself is being reorganised to make browsing as comfortable and rewarding as possible, and our website is being redesigned without losing any of its individuality! We will continue to be the only black and white website on the internet!

Most importantly, we are doing all we can to buy rare and interesting books. If you have a collection to sell, please let us know!

The summer months have been kind to us this year, and the book trolleys are out in force on most days. Don't forget, we also have a Sale Room inside the shop as well, full of bargains at £1, £2 and £5.

Next update soon.
